ADVENT PRAYER
As we near the end of the school year, we prepare for the Church season of Advent.
Loving God,
As we prepare for the coming of Your Son,
help us to open our hearts to His love.
May this season of Advent fill our school with hope, peace, joy, and love.
Bless our families, friends, and teachers,
and guide us to share kindness with everyone we meet.
Come, Lord Jesus, and be with us always.
Amen.

AS WE APPROACH THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
Our school is buzzing with excitement and festive cheer as we near the end of the year. Students are eagerly preparing for the Christmas concert, ready to showcase their gifts and talents. The spirit of Advent is alive throughout the school, reminding us of the true meaning of the season and the joy that Christmas brings.
In addition to the celebrations, swimming lessons have been a great success, with students making wonderful progress and improving their skills.
ANNUAL GENERAL COMMUNITY MEETING (AGM) 2025
Last Tuesday evening, I had the privilege of presenting a summary of the year’s school activities at our Annual General Community Meeting. This event was also a wonderful opportunity to express our gratitude to the many parents who generously share their time and talents to support our students’ education.
Reports were presented by Advisory Council Chair Mrs. Rebecca Faugno, Treasurer Mr. Daniel Della Vedova, P&F Chair Mrs. Patrycja Spears, P&F Treasurer Mrs. Sarah Bockxmeer, and Mr. Joep Vaessen from Men of St Thomas (MOST). Each report highlighted the outstanding achievements of our students, staff, and community throughout 2025.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to retiring Advisory Council members Rebecca Faugno, Daniel Della Vedova, and Stashu Powlika for their dedicated service. We warmly welcome Jerry Frewen and Matt Kinder to the Advisory Council. Our P&F Executive remains unchanged for 2026, and we are deeply grateful to all who generously give their time to these committees.
STAFFING 2026
As we prepare for an exciting new year, we take a moment to warmly farewell Mr Liam Godsall, Mrs Nicola MacDonald, and Mrs Anita Carlisle. We are so grateful for the care, dedication, and energy they have brought to our school community. Their contributions have made a lasting impact, and we wish them every success in the next chapter of their journey.
At the same time, we are delighted to welcome Mrs Megan Clarke, Mrs Gemma Roberts, and Mr Josh Antulov to our team. Each brings wonderful experience and enthusiasm, and we look forward to the fresh ideas and positivity they will share with our students and staff.

REPORTS
Next Monday 8 December, End of Year student reports will be available for parents to download through Seqta. A link will be emailed to all parents when these reports become ‘live’ and ready for you to view. Preparation of these reports takes considerable time on the part of teachers, and I applaud their hard work and professionalism, often outside of work hours, to give such a comprehensive overview of individual student achievement across all learning areas of the Western Australian curriculum.
REA REPORTS – YEARS 3 & 5
These reports will be released with the End of Year Reports. This is a CEWA Assessment and shows student performance based on a scale of 6 bands. Parents can access this through Seqta at approximately the same time as the End of Year reports are released.
LOST PROPERTY
There has been a significant amount of lost property recently. Teachers continue to work with students to independently organise and care for their belongings. The lost property container is located outside the library door. Named uniforms and food containers can be returned to students, however, any unnamed items are located in the lost and found container. There are many items with former students’ names on them – please contact the office if these belong to your child. I encourage parents to name their child’s belongings and to remove the names of previous owners on their child’s uniform to help us better track the current owners.
SEASONS GREETINGS
Thank you to all parents in our amazing St Thomas’ community for your support of our mission, vision and education philosophy. We are blessed to be working with our 229 outstanding students and their families, here in Claremont. Enjoy the Christmas break and we look forward to continuing the amazing development of each child and the school as a whole. Exciting times are ahead in 2026!

Advent
The Advent Wreath
As we journey through Advent, we prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. The Advent wreath is a beautiful symbol of this season. Its circle reminds us of God’s endless love, and the evergreen branches represent eternal life. Each week, we light a candle, three purple and one pink, signifying hope, peace, joy, and love. The growing light reflects our anticipation and readiness to welcome Christ, the Light of the World.

Christmas Concert
Costume List for Christmas Concert
Our beautiful Christmas Concert is approaching quickly. The children have been working hard to prepare a wonderful celebration for our school community.
Our Musical this year is called “Once Upon a Starry Night”, a Hal Leonard production by Ruth Schram and John Jacobsen. It tells the Christmas story through the eyes of some very special stars: General Comet Powell, Big Glow, and Shooting Star as they travel across the sky and help guide shepherds, angels, and wise men to Bethlehem. As they share the events of that first Christmas, the stars begin to realise that God has a purpose for each of His creations, including them. Once Upon a Starry Night shines a light on the true meaning of Christmas and the hope it brings.

Chess Club
What a fantastic way to wrap up the year with the St Thomas’ Chess Club Competition! Our Junior and Senior teams have been challenging each other all year, and it was wonderful to see everyone come together for the big event. Some students learned chess for the very first time this year, while others have been long-time club members. For our Year 6s, this was their last competition, and we’ll miss them next year.
The competition was full of excitement, with a few nail-biting play-offs too! Congratulations to our Chess Champions, Runner-Ups, and every student who took part. You should all be proud of your efforts.
We can’t wait for Chess Club 2026!
Y6 Highlight for 2025
The Year 6 highlight of the year, apart from our many travels to Canberra and Ern Halliday, would be our STEM learning. STEM has been a fantastic use of time, allowing students to demonstrate their creativity while exploring the curriculum in a fun and engaging way. The students loved making their Rube Goldberg machines and are excited to show them to the school community.
Y5 Highlight for 2025
The highlight for Year 5 was our amazing overnight camp at AQWA! Students explored Western Australia’s marine life, learned about ocean conservation, and even slept underneath the giant aquarium. It was an unforgettable experience full of fun and discovery.
Science Highlight for 2025
Science Highlights for 2025
Highlights this year have been:
Pre-Primary’s plant investigation which gave us some surprising results, Year 1’s animal habitat dioramas, Year 2’s Teddy transporters, Year 3’s Escape the Room Science week challenge, Year 4’s Chocolate Rocks activity where they got to classify rocks of chocolates, Year 5’s Light Mazes, Year 6’s Investigations into animal evolution.
This term the arrival of the taxidermy animals heralded much excitement (along with some disgust towards the snake!) and all classes have enjoyed working with the animals.
Performing Arts 2025
This year has been an incredible journey in the Performing Arts, filled with creativity, growth, and memorable learning experiences. Our highlights have been our many performances for our community, in Term 1 it was The Coming of Colours, Term 3 the Dramatised the Gospel at St Mary’s Cathedral and the Drama Club performance of Peter Pan, all our successful performances at the Arts Festival for instrumental soloists, vocalists, choral, drama and dance performances and finally in Term 4 our whole school Musical performance of Once Upon a Starry Night.
Y4 Highlight for 2025
Y3 Highlight for 2025
Our Year 3 and 4 students enjoyed an excursion to the Claremont Museum, where they stepped back in time to experience life in the olden days. They took part in hands-on activities such as making scones, washing clothes by hand, and sitting in a traditional classroom writing on slates.
Students were fascinated by the stories and artifacts that showed how life in Claremont has changed over the years. These experiences linked perfectly to our HASS learning about local history and changes over time.
Back in class, students reflected on the day by writing diary entries from the perspective of a child living in Claremont many years ago, deepening their understanding of our local community and its heritage. The excursion sparked great discussions about how technology and daily life have evolved, helping students appreciate the importance of history in shaping our present.
PP Highlight for 2025
Kindy Highlights for 2025
In Kindergarten this term, we have been developing our oral language skills by bringing in exciting items and photos to share with our classmates. Sharing news in front of a small audience has helped us build confidence in speaking and listening.
Alongside this, we have been learning our letter sounds through creative art activities and beginning to orally blend short words in fun literacy games. These experiences support our growth in communication and early reading skills.
It’s been wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm and joy as they share their ideas and celebrate their learning together!
Physical Education Highlights for 2025
2025 has been an outstanding year for Physical Education at St Thomas’ Primary School, with students showing strong skill development, teamwork and pride across all events.
Our interschool teams achieved exceptional results, including champion school titles in Swimming and Athletics as well as strong Cross Country performances with age-group winners in the Year 3 and Year 5 boys. The Winter Carnival saw Division A victories in Soccer and Netball, highlighting the dedication of all our teams. Run Club was fantastic to be part of in my first year and it was amazing to see such large numbers attending each week and the enthusiasm students brought to every session.
Sporting Schools programs in basketball, gymnastics, taekwondo and ultimate frisbee added great variety to student learning and it has been a pleasure to watch our students challenge themselves while celebrating one another’s successes throughout the year.
Year 1 Highlights for 2025
This year has been filled with fun, laughter, and lots of learning in Year 1! One of our biggest highlights was our exciting excursion to the Boola Bardip Museum, where we explored the importance of water and learned about the rich culture and history of the First Nations People.
This experience sparked a fascinating learning journey into how life has changed over time for all of us. Together, we researched and discovered how tools, food, shelters, clothing, toys, and everyday lifestyles have evolved. The students loved comparing the past with the present and sharing their insights through creative projects and discussions. It has truly been a year of curiosity, discovery, and growth!
Year 2 Highlights for 2025
One of the highlights in Year 2 has been exploring through measurement. Students have been exploring how to compare and order everyday objects by length using uniform informal units such as blocks, counters, and pop sticks. They discovered that using the same sized unit helps make measurements accurate and fair.
Working collaboratively, students measured a variety of classroom items, including each other, recorded their findings, and discussed why some measuring methods are more reliable than others. A highlight was predicting everyone’s height (even Miss Harvey’s!) before measuring and then ordering all students from shortest to tallest.
