Welcome to St.Thomas'

Prayer: Feast of the Presentation of Mary in the Temple

Loving God,
Today we remember Mary, who gave her life to You with joy and trust.
Help us to follow her example by saying “yes” to Your love every day.
May we grow in kindness, faith, and courage, just as Mary did.
Bless our families, friends, and school, and keep us close to You always.

Amen.

Feast of the Presentation of Mary in the Temple

This special feast on Friday 21 November, celebrates the day when Mary, as a young child, was presented by her parents Joachim and Anne, in the Temple to dedicate her life to God. It reminds us of Mary’s openness and trust in God’s plan.

The Presentation Sisters, founded by Nano Nagle, chose this feast as their name because it reflects their mission of dedication to God and service to others, especially through education. Just as Mary said “yes” to God, the Sisters inspire us to live with faith, courage, and compassion.

As a school connected to the Presentation Sisters, this feast is a reminder of their heritage and the call to live with faith, generosity, and love.

Celebrating Together

The Presentation Sisters will be joining our students from Years 2–6 for  Mass at 9am in the Church this Friday 21 November, to celebrate this important Feast Day. Parents and families are warmly invited to attend.

Network Meeting for Teachers

We are delighted to be part of the ‘Beaches Network’, a collaborative platform for networking and moderation across all learning areas. The Beaches Network consists of five single-stream Catholic schools:

  • St Thomas’ Primary School, Claremont
  • St John’s Primary, Scarborough
  • Holy Spirit, City Beach
  • Our Lady of Good Counsel, Karrinyup
  • St Dominic’s, Innaloo

On Tuesday afternoon, we were proud to host the Term 4 meeting here at St Thomas’. This gathering gave teachers from our surrounding schools the opportunity to share ideas, discuss curriculum, and plan for the year ahead.

Networking benefits our students and families by:

  • Ensuring consistency and quality across schools through moderation of student work.
  • Sharing best practices in teaching and learning to enhance classroom experiences.
  • Building strong professional connections that support innovation and collaboration.

These partnerships help us maintain high standards and provide the best possible education for your children.

Reports

End of Year reports for Kindergarten to Year Six students will be available to parents on the afternoon of Monday 8 December through Seqta. Kindergarten students will receive a report that communicates achievement in-line with elements of the Early Years Learning Framework and WA Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines. Pre-primary to Year Six students will be assessed on curriculum areas of the WA Curriculum, as set out by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) – the independent authority mandated by the government for setting and administering the Western Australian curriculum. Teachers will provide achievement grades and effort indicators for each student in each subject studied across the year. ‘A’ to ‘E’ letter grades are used in Years 1-6 (not Pre-primary), where a ‘C’ grade denotes achievement in-line with the expected achievement level of a student in that year level. They will also communicate progress in personal and social development, and in addition to a grade, make a comment on achievement across the year in Religious Education, English, Mathematics and Personal and Social Development. If you have any questions regarding the reporting process, please contact me.

Christmas Concert

Costume List for Christmas Concert

Our beautiful Christmas Concert is approaching quickly. The children have been working hard to prepare a wonderful celebration for our school community.

Our Musical this year is called “Once Upon a Starry Night”, a Hal Leonard production by Ruth Schram and John Jacobsen. It tells the Christmas story through the eyes of some very special stars: General Comet Powell, Big Glow, and Shooting Star as they travel across the sky and help guide shepherds, angels, and wise men to Bethlehem. As they share the events of that first Christmas, the stars begin to realise that God has a purpose for each of His creations, including them. Once Upon a Starry Night shines a light on the true meaning of Christmas and the hope it brings.

Please note Costumes for the children listed below:

The Arts and Multiculturalism at Saint Thomas’ Primary School

At Saint Thomas’ Primary School, we are proud to celebrate the rich diversity within our community. Across the school, and especially in our Pre-Kindy room, many children bring with them the beauty of different languages and cultures — including Italian, Spanish, Chinese, and many more.

One of the wonderful ways we explore and celebrate this diversity is through The Arts. Each morning during singing time in Pre-Kindy, we enjoy songs in a variety of languages. The children love joining in — clapping, dancing, and trying out new words. The child whose language we are singing in often beams with pride as they share, “That’s my song!” These joyful moments help all our children learn to appreciate and celebrate cultures beyond their own.

In Visual Art, our students continue this cultural journey by exploring creative traditions from around the world. They study patterns found in African and Asian art, experiment with natural materials inspired by Indigenous artworks, and discover the stories of great European artists. Through these experiences, children gain a deeper understanding of different cultures and learn to express empathy, respect, and appreciation for the world’s many artistic voices.

By weaving multiculturalism into our Arts program, we nurture not only creativity but also a strong sense of belonging and global awareness in every child.
