Welcome to St.Thomas'

Prayer: Father's Day

Dear God,

Thank You for the gift of fathers and all those who care for us with a father’s love. We are grateful for their strength, their guidance, and their kindness. Bless all dads, those with us and those who live in our hearts. Help them to be patient, wise, and full of joy. Give them courage when times are hard, and peace in their hearts each day. May they always know how much they are loved and appreciated.

We pray for our fathers, father figures, and all the special men who help us grow. May they feel Your love through the smiles and hugs of the children they care for.

Amen.

PRINCIPALS CONFERENCE – Australian Catholic Education Conference

During the recent Australian Catholic Education Conference in Cairns, I had the privilege of attending a powerful presentation by Dr Stephen Constantino, a leading voice in community engagement. His message was clear and compelling: relationships come before culture.

This insight resonates deeply with our mission at St Thomas’. Strong, authentic relationships between school, home, and the wider community are the foundation of a thriving learning environment, where every child feels known, valued, and supported.

In this Year of Community, I extend my heartfelt thanks to all families for attending school events and for actively participating in your child’s school life. I warmly encourage you to continue connecting with our teachers to learn more about your child’s educational journey. Your presence and partnership are invaluable in enriching their learning experience and nurturing a strong, supportive school environment.

QUALITY CATHOLIC EDUCATION AWARDS

We are thrilled to share that St Thomas’ Primary School has received two nominations in the prestigious Quality Catholic Education Awards.

These nominations celebrate the incredible work of our staff, students, and community, and we would love your support in the People’s Choice voting, which is now open.

You can view a video of the event HERE.

  • Community Category – ARTs Show: Celebrating Inclusivity, Creativity and Community

A vibrant celebration of student creativity and inclusivity, the ARTs Show brought our community together through a stunning display of Visual Arts, Music, Vocal, and Instrumental performances. From the Assistant Principal

As we move through Term Three, our school continues to thrive with vibrant learning experiences, creative celebrations, and strong community engagement. This is an incredibly busy term, for us all, but notably for a small school to offer such big opportunities for its students, and students to take on those challenges, is so rewarding to be part of.
DEEPENING UNDERSTANDING: STAFF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ON FIRST NATIONS
Our staff recently participated in a meaningful professional development session focused on the future growth areas for our school in the area of First Nations Perspectives across the curriculum, and delivering meaningful Acknowledgements of Country. Led by CEWA consultant Heather Carter Sullivan, the session deepened staff understanding on strategies to embed respectful practices across the curriculum. This learning strengthens our commitment to reconciliation and ensures our students grow up with a deep respect for the land and its traditional custodians.
BOOK WEEK ADVENTURES
Book Week was an exciting celebration of imagination and story sharing. Our parade was a colourful showcase of creativity, with students (and staff) dressing up as their favourite book characters. The support from families was incredible — thank you for helping bring the magic to life for the students in their costumes and during the parade. What an amazing community experience it was! We were also thrilled to welcome author Susan Lu, who captivated students with her stories and insights into the writing process. Her visit inspired many budding writers and reminded us of the power of books to connect and inspire.
ICAS TESTS
Congratulations to all students who participated in the ICAS assessments this term. With all tests now completed, we await results and further information to be distributed from ICAS. Once we receive this information, it will be shared with families, and we look forward to celebrating individual achievements at a upcoming Gathering.
CATHOLIC PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL
Our students have shone brightly in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, participating in a variety of categories including Sacred Choral, Bible Reading, Choir, Rock Band, and individual instrumental performances. Their dedication and talent were evident in every performance, and we are so proud of the way they represented St Thomas’ with grace and enthusiasm.
DRAMA PERFORMANCE
Excitement is building for next week’s Drama Performance, where students will take to the stage to showcase their skills in performing arts. Families are warmly invited to purchase tickets to support our young performers. It promises to be a delightful evening of entertainment. A huge thank you to Mrs Miller, Mrs Wills, Mrs Valentine and Mrs Vincent for their organisation and support of the students. Thank you also to all parents involved in preparation, costumes and set-building.
LOCKDOWN & EVACUATION DRILLS
Recently, our students participated in lockdown and evacuation drills. We were impressed by how calmly and responsibly they responded during these important exercises. These drills help ensure that everyone knows what to do in an emergency, and we thank staff and students for prioritising safety at school.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we are creating a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment for all our

Mini Vinnies Fundraiser

Lolly Bags for Sale – Learning Journey

Drama Production - Peter Pan

This year the year 5 and 6 drama club are proud to present the production of “Peter Pan” from the script by Kate Brier.
The children tell the story of Peter Pan, a boy who wouldn’t grow up. Join them as they take you on an adventure to Neverland, meet the Darling children, Wendy, John, and Michael, along with other iconic characters like Tinkerbell, Captain Hook, the Lost Kids, Pirates, Mermaids and the Wildlings.
We look forward to sharing the adventures with you over the two nights, as we think happy thoughts and add a little magic pixie dust.

Curriculum Corner - Year 5

This term in Year 5, we’ve been getting hands-on with all things angles. We’ve been measuring, comparing, constructing, and classifying angles using protractors!

Students have explored the angles in the letters of their names, classifying them as acute, obtuse, right, or reflex, and then measuring each one with a protractor. In another activity, they worked in teams to physically sort angle cards, then compared and ordered them from largest to smallest.

We’ve also been busy creating our own protractor tutorial videos using iMovie. Each tutorial explains what a protractor is, the different parts, how to measure angles, and how to construct them accurately. They’re clear, informative, and made by kids, for kids.

Crazy Camel Fundraiser

CRAZY CAMEL FUNDRAISING
Under the guidance of Mrs Byrne, the children have all been busy preparing their artwork for the ‘Crazy Camel’, a fundraiser that the school will complete every second year. Crazy Camel is an Australian-based, family run business offering a wide range of keepsakes featuring your child’s artwork.  Please know that this is the last chance for parents to purchase items in not only year 6 but year 5 as well. Perfect as a memory of your child’s art as well as a great idea for presents.
Via the link below, you can place orders until the deadline of Friday, 5 September 2025. Selected and paid for items will be delivered to the school and distributed to the children to take home in term 4. Click on the link below, upload by year group to view the art and then process your orders.
On behalf of the P&F, we greatly appreciate your support in this fundraiser.
Thank you

E-Challenge News

Speak Up Awards

On Wednesday 20 August, Lucas and Giacomo from Year 6 and Eva from Year 5 were taken by Mrs Cloud to the Speak Up awards in Doubleview. Nerves were in the air but Eva’s speech on The Mystery of Amelia Earhart intrigued the adjudicators, Lucas’s speech on Hydraulics in Cars showed his deep knowledge of the subject, and Giacomo’s speech entitled Arti-techture had everyone thinking about how much art there really is in architecture. All three sought feedback from the adjudicators, which demonstrated their willingness to improve, and the judges were very positive in that feedback, mentioning how they presented well, made good eye contact with the audience, and choose interesting subject matter. Giacomo’s speech won him a place in the regional finals in the second week of September. A big well done to all three speakers, they were a credit to St. Thomas’!

Tournament of Minds

On Saturday 6 September, twenty-one St Thomas’ students will be heading to ECU in Joondalup to present their solutions to real life challenges at the Tournament of Minds. They have been working hard at creating their solutions and a 10-minute presentation to go with them.

Academic All Stars

At the beginning of Term 4, 8 Year 5 students will be competing against 4 other schools in the Academic All Stars competition, which we are hosting. The day will consist of challenges and competition across a variety of disciplines including Engineering, English, Maths, Chess, Drama and Art.

Good luck to all students participating in competitions over the next couple of months, we are so lucky to be able to offer these opportunities to our students, and we wish them the best knowing that they’ll do us proud as always!
