Remembrance Day Service
On Monday, 11 November, our school community gathered for a beautiful Remembrance Day service led by our Year 5 students. A thoughtful display in the garden area below our flags served as a moving tribute to those who have served and continue to serve our country. Many thanks to Mrs. Pitcher and the Year 5 students for leading us in this special commemoration.
Year 5 Camp
Our Year 5 students recently had an unforgettable sleepover at AQWA, Australia’s largest single aquarium. Surrounded by sharks, stingrays, and hundreds of vibrant marine species, students engaged in exclusive tours and marine-themed activities, gaining insight into the wonders of marine life. Mrs. Pitcher, Mr. Godsall, and Mr. Nankivell joined the students for this exciting educational experience.
Night of the Notables
Congratulations to our fifteen Year 4, 5 & 6 students who participated in Night of the Notables on Tuesday evening. “Night of the Notables” is an exciting event where our students celebrate influential figures throughout history. Each student selects a notable person to research, focusing on their achievements, impact, and personal qualities. They then create presentations, which include dressing as their chosen figure, sharing key insights, and sometimes even performing monologues. This night allows our students to showcase their learning and creativity, bringing history to life while developing their research and public speaking skills. Special thanks to Mrs Gibbs for preparing the students for this amazing showcase.

Students will be bussed to and from their lessons and accompanied by teachers and EAs. The school will run a slightly different timetable for these two weeks. If you have any information concerning your child’s participation in these lessons, please contact your child’s teacher so each child can be catered for. Students will require appropriate bathers (including rashie), towel, thongs and goggles. Sport uniform may be worn for the fortnight to facilitate easy changing for students. Teachers will communicate more information specific to each year level. Lesson details are as follows:

Years 3 & 4 – Claremont Pool (first week) leaving at 10:10am and returning at 11:20am and Cottesloe Beach (second week) leaving 9:40am and returning to school 10:55am.

1:1 iPAD PROGRAM
In 2025, Years 4-6 will continue with the Parent-owned 1:1 iPad program. If parents feel their child’s device needs updating, they are welcome to purchase a new iPad and advise the school so that the school management software can be installed prior to use. The Apple iPad is the only device students are permitted to use at St Thomas’. iPads can be purchased from any retail store, or through Winthrop Australia by clicking here. As previously communicated to 2025 Year 3 parents, next year the school will provide Year 3 students with a school-owned iPad and peripherals such as headphones and keyboard case. If you have any questions regarding the iPad program, please contact me to discuss.
REPORTS
End of Year reports for Kindergarten to Year Six students will be available to parents on the afternoon of Monday 2 December through Seqta. Kindergarten students will receive a report that communicates achievement in-line with elements of the Early Years Learning Framework and WA Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines. Pre-primary to Year Six students will be assessed on curriculum areas of the WA Curriculum, as set out by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) – the independent authority mandated by the government for setting and administering the Western Australian curriculum. Teachers will provide achievement grades and effort grades for each student in each subject studied across the year. ‘A’ to ‘E’ letter grades are used in Years 1-6 (not Pre-primary), where a ‘C’ grade denotes achievement in-line with the expected achievement level of a student in that year level. They will also communicate progress in personal and social development, and in addition to a grade, make a comment on achievement across the year in Religious Education, English, Mathematics and Personal and Social Development. If you have any questions regarding the reporting process, please contact me.

Collection closes on Week 8 Monday, and baskets will be available in each classroom for your contributions.
Together, let’s help make this Christmas a little brighter for everyone.
Pre-primary News
Last week, the pre-primary students had an incredible day at AQWA on Tuesday, 5th November. The children were thrilled to take their first-ever bus ride, which was an adventure! They were all excitedly chatting about the sea animals they hoped to see and the knowledge they’d gained in our ocean inquiry this semester. Upon arrival, students dove right into a world of marine discovery. They had the unique opportunity to get hands-on with some sea creatures—touching starfish and even feeling the rough skin of small sharks! It was amazing to see the students so engaged, recognizing many of the animals they’d learned about in class. The children were captivated as they became ecosystem engineers for the day, using photosensitive paint to create giant seagrass blades that will soon be a part of AQWA’s community art project. They learned that seagrass beds serve as the ocean’s nursery, providing a safe space for young fish to grow and helping to prevent coastal erosion by acting as a natural barrier to waves. It was fascinating for the students to hear how seagrass and coral reefs work together like friendly neighbours, supporting each other to create thriving ecosystem. The AQWA excursion truly brought our ocean inquiry unit to life. This unforgettable experience left the children with a deeper appreciation for the sea and an understanding of how we can all help protect it.

Thank you to everyone who donated equipment, dressed up and donated a gold coin to a wonderful charity.
We raised $256.70 and this money will go towards children who need equipment to stay healthy and active in the community.
