PRAYER FOR REMEMBRANCE DAY
Dear God,
We remember with thankful hearts all those who have served and sacrificed for peace and freedom.
We think of the soldiers, nurses, and helpers who gave so much so that we can live in safety. Help us to be peacemakers in our own lives, kind, respectful, and caring to others. May we learn from the past and work together for a future filled with hope and harmony. Bless our school, our families, and our country.
Amen.

REMEMBRANCE DAY
Next Tuesday, 11 November, we will gather as a school community to commemorate Remembrance Day and honour the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country. Our Year 5 students will lead a special prayer service as we pause to remember those who have contributed to securing the freedoms we enjoy today.
Weather permitting, the service will be held on the basketball court near the flagpole. We are pleased to welcome one of our parents, Lieutenant Colonel Leigh Partridge, who will share reflections on the significance of Remembrance Day.
Parents and family members are warmly invited to attend this important occasion.
YEAR 3 STUDENTS RECEIVE THE SACRAMENT OF PENANCE
This week, our Year 3 students took an important step in their faith journey as they received the Sacrament of Penance for the first time. Supported by their families and
our parish community, the children reflected on the gifts of forgiveness, reconciliation and God’s unconditional love.
It was a beautiful and reverent celebration, marking a significant milestone in their spiritual development. Thank you to Father Garner for celebrating the sacrament and to Miss Antulov and Sr Catherine for their dedication in preparing our students to receive this special sacrament.
STAFFING 2027
We know families are eager to learn about our staffing arrangements for 2027. Parents will be notified as soon as staffing has been finalised, which we anticipate will be by mid to late November.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT
Tuesday, 8 December
We warmly invite all families and friends, to join us for our annual Christmas Concert, Miracle at Midnight, on Tuesday, 8 December.
Gates will open at 5.30pm for a family picnic on the top oval, with the concert commencing at 6.15pm. All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will be taking part in this wonderful celebration of the Christmas story.
We look forward to sharing this special evening with our families, friends and wider community.
YEAR 5 CAMP
Our Year 5 students head off to Point Walter Recreation Camp today for their overnight camp experience. We wish them a wonderful time as they participate in team-building activities and further develop their friendships.
P&F MEETING
Our final P&F Meeting for the year will be held this Thursday 5 November at 6.30pm. Parents are welcome to attend either in person or online. A meeting link will be distributed prior to the meeting.
Thank you for your continued support of our school community. I wish all families a wonderful week ahead

FROM AWARENESS TO ACTION
At St Thomas’ Primary School, our school values continue to guide the way we learn, interact and care for one another. Children are naturally interested in fairness. Why do some children have more than others? Why do people experience poverty? Where does our rubbish go? Why should we conserve water? What happens when environments are damaged? These questions provide important opportunities to develop both knowledge and compassion. Our focus on Excellence for Our World encourages students to move through three stages: see, care and act. We first seek to understand our world and the experiences of others. We then consider why these things should matter to us. Finally, we ask what action we can realistically take. This reflects our Catholic understanding of stewardship, human dignity and the common good. Exactly the themes our Year Six ‘Becoming Beacons’ program works to promote with our students. It also helps children understand that excellence isn’t measured only by what they accomplish for themselves. Perhaps one of the most important questions we can teach our children to ask is: “What can I do to make this better?” When knowledge, compassion and action come together, excellence becomes something much greater than individual achievement. It becomes service.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION ASSESSMENT
Earlier this year students in Years 3 and 5 participated in the Religious Education Assessment, administered by Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA). This assessment provides valuable information about students’ knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith, and supports schools in strengthening the teaching and learning of Religious Education. Over the coming days, individual assessment reports will be made available to parents and caregivers of students in Years 3 and 5, via Seqta Engage. Parents will be notified via email when reports are available.
REPORTS
End of Year Student Reports will be available to parents and caregivers through SEQTA Engage on the afternoon of Monday 7 December. Reports provide an overview of each student’s academic achievement and effort throughout the semester. For students in Years 1 to 6, reports include an A-E achievement grade for each learning area, alongside an effort grade reflecting their application and engagement in learning. Reporting formats differ for our younger students. Kindergarten students receive a specifically designed report that reflects their early learning and development, while Pre-primary reports do not include A–E letter grades. The final element of the report includes personal and social development, as well as one overall comment incorporating progress and achievement through Religious Education, English, Mathematics and personal development over the year. We encourage families to take the time to read and discuss their child’s report, celebrating achievements and recognising the progress made throughout the year. Should you have any questions about the reporting process, grading or require further information, please contact me directly.
SLIP LANE
Thank you to all families who continue to use our school slip lane safely, respectfully and efficiently during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. The Town of Claremont Rangers have been supporting the safe and appropriate use of the roads and parking areas surrounding our school, helping to ensure the safety of students, families and other road users. WA Police have also had speed detection equipment to monitor safe vehicle speeds. A friendly reminder to move as far forward as possible when entering the slip lane. This allows more vehicles to enter the lane, reduces congestion and supports a smoother and safer flow of traffic. Ultimately, our shared priority is simple: keeping every community member safe. Thank you for continuing to play your part in making our school environment a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
SWIMMING LESSONS
Our upcoming swimming program will once again provide students with valuable opportunities to develop their swimming skills, water safety awareness and confidence in a range of aquatic environments. It takes place during weeks 7 and 8 this term (Monday 23 November to Friday 4 December). As previously advertised, lessons will take place at the following locations:
* Pre-Primary to Year 2: Claremont Pool
* Years 3 and 4: Claremont Pool during the first week, followed by Cottesloe Beach during the second week
* Years 5 and 6: Cottesloe Beach
Lessons will be delivered by Rare Indigo, our external swimming and water safety provider. St Thomas’ staff will accompany students on bus journeys to and from the venues and supervise students throughout the lessons. A form will be sent to families shortly. To make changing before and after lessons easier, students may wear their sports uniform throughout the fortnight. Classroom teachers will communicate specific arrangements and reminders through their Week at a Glance emails. Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the swimming program, please email me directly.
YEAR FOUR SATURDAY MASS
A reminder our Year Four students will lead the mass at St Thomas the Apostle church, Claremont, this Saturday night. These masses are always a true community experience where our school shares in the Eucharist with our parish. The mass begins at 5:30pm and a sausage sizzle will follow on the grass outside the presbytery. Everyone is most welcome. Thank you to the Year Parent rep’s and parent helpers for their work with this.

Interschool Athletics Carnival 2026
On Monday 2 November, our St Thomas’ Athletics Team competed at the Interschool Athletics Carnival at WA Athletics Stadium.
Our fantastic results were:
-
Boys: 5th Overall
-
Girls: 3rd Overall
-
Overall Shield: 3rd Overall
I am incredibly proud of all the students who represented St Thomas’ on the day! Every student gave their absolute best, showed great determination and supported one another throughout the carnival.
Regardless of the results, seeing everyone give it their all and represent our school with such enthusiasm and sportsmanship was the highlight of the day. I couldn’t be prouder of you all!
Well done, St Thomas’!
AFL Player visits STPS!
Current Sydney Swan player Logan McDonald visited upper primary students last Friday 30 October to say hello and share some of his football journey. The students heard about Logan’s time at the Sydney Swans, growing up as a Perth boy and what life is like as an AFL elite athlete. Students asked questions and heard all about the hard work Logan has put in to make it to the top of his game, and what he is looking forward to for season 2027. We thank Logan for making time to stop by and speak with our students – and look forward to another visit sometime soon!

Languages Program Update for 2027
Following parent consultation and a review of our Languages program, St Thomas’ will be introducing Italian for students in Years 3-6 from 2027.
We are excited that the program will be delivered by a dedicated face-to-face specialist teacher, providing students with engaging and authentic language learning experiences. Italian also offers students valuable opportunities to develop cultural understanding and communication skills while connecting with an important part of Western Australia’s heritage.
We would like to thank all families who shared their feedback during the consultation process. We acknowledge that some parents expressed a preference for continuing Mandarin, and we sincerely appreciate their input. After careful consideration of all feedback and the needs of our school community, we are confident that Italian will provide a high-quality and sustainable language program for our students.
We look forward to sharing more information about the Italian program as we prepare for its introduction in 2027.

Mini Vinnies
Mini Vinnies Christmas Food Drive
As Christmas draws near, our Mini Vinnies team invites every St Thomas’ family to help share the joy of the season. Throughout November, we will be collecting donations for St Vincent de Paul, who will deliver them to local families doing it tough this Christmas.
Our school was founded by the Presentation Sisters, who followed in the footsteps of Venerable Nano Nagle. Nano walked the dark streets of Cork each night carrying a lantern, bringing education, food and comfort to the poor. She became known as the “Lady of the Lantern”, and her light still shines at St Thomas’. Through this drive, our children are invited to be bearers of light themselves, living out our motto, Together in Christ, and our school values of Compassionand Community by reaching out to others with open hearts. By giving to anyone in need, regardless of their circumstances, we also live our value of Inclusivity.
What to donate
All donated items must be non-perishable: no fresh, frozen or refrigerated foods, please, and check that use-by dates are well into the new year. Above all, we’d love items that will bring Christmas cheer to someone less fortunate, the little treats that make the day feel special. Ideas include:
- Christmas puddings, cakes and boxed mince pies
- Shortbread, festive biscuits and boxes of chocolates
- Tinned ham, salmon or fruit
- Long-life custard, cream or juice
- Bonbons, lollies, nuts and Christmas treats
- Pantry staples such as pasta, rice, sauces and cereal
Donations can be brought to school with your child who will pop it into the classroom collection basket. The St Vincent de Paul basket will be in every classroom.
Thank you for your generosity. Every item you give helps carry Nano’s lantern a little further this Christmas.
Mini Vinnies team thanks you for your support.
